And, as ever at this time of year singer Cormac has a few words for you all……..
How’s it goin there folks? Yes that’s right, its time for the annual Cormo Christmas message. Hard to know where to begin with this year’s round up so I suppose the beginning is as good a place to start as any….
The album sessions in El Paso seem like a long time ago right now. But when I think about it we couldn’t have asked for a better way to start 2011. We got to go to Texas for two months in desert during which time we recorded Revival, an album which the four of us firmly believe is our best yet. Thus began the campaign (still on going) to revive rock n roll from the grassroots up. While we got our new album mixed and sorted out the artwork we threw ourselves into rehearsals for the good times in front of us. But that
didn’t mean we couldn’t play a few top secret shows around Ireland and the UK to road test the new material. We’d like to thank all the good people who came to those shows, those were some hot and sweaty rock n roll shows!!
We headed into the festival season armed with a bunch of brand new songs and a resolution to put the heart and soul back into the kind of music we all love and worship. Hellfest in France and England’s own Sonisphere were two major highlights of the summer and reminded us that there’s no better place to be in the world than getting drunk and rockin out at a rock and metal festival. We got to hang out with some friends both back and front of stage, drink lots of whisky and…Maybe I should let the guys tell you some the stories in person. Suffice to say we had a good summer.
Then came the first leg of the Revival tour in which we took our new songs around Ireland and the UK for a month long rock n rollercoaster ride. This was our first proper tour for quite some time and no better way to get back in the saddle than by bringing it
back to the grassroots. We decided it would be best to keep this one up close and personal and that it was. There wasn’t a single night on that tour when I didn’t walk off stage thinking to myself “holy shit I’ve got the best job in the world!!!”. The new material went down a blast and we got to play some old favourites like Memphis Water again and the crowds gave us a lot of love throughout. I only hope that we gave it back and then some. It was definite proof if ever any was need that rock music is best served live. Roll on March is all I’ve got left to say about that!!
The year’s curtain closer came in the form of an almighty European tour during which we got to play a few more headline shows but also got to rock out with our old friends Whitesnake again. Starting in Scandinavia and curling through Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland and Holland we played in front of some of our
most enthusiastic crowds yet. David Coverdale was in fine form as were the band. I even got to give Doug Aldrich a lesson in bar stool bag pipe playing. We couldn’t have hoped for a better way to end the year.
So as my rambling draws to a close all I’ve got left to do is thank all you good people for buying our new album, coming to our shows and just generally making this all possible for us. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. We couldn’t do any of this without you and we’re eternally grateful for your support. We’re back in Europe from the second week of January. We’re in Greece and Japan in February and then back in the UK and Ireland in
March. America, don’t worry we’ve got something in the pipeline for you too. So until next year my friends have a great Christmas and a happy new year. The Answer loves
you!!!!
And finally, a musical Christmas message for you all!
