First time seeing The Answer

Postby joemcil on Sat Mar 13, 2010 1:19 pm

Smally posted this online recently and i realised that it was one of the first times i saw the guys i believe ( If it was the gig when they played on the back on a Lorry - it was my 2nd time, with a weekend before ebing steaming drunk n seeing the boys!)

http://web.archive.org/web/200503062005 ... /index.asp

thats the link!

But makes me wonder, when was the first time you can recall seeing the band, where, (supporting/headlining) and why was it memorable that you kept seeing the band

Mine was a Quinns gig, maybe had max of 50 or so people but those 50 people where drunk merry and rocking out like mental patients! It was so memorable/forgetful that i knew i had to see the guys again, when i saw the guys for that link above i was hungover as hell so was able to remember them alot more ( even if it hurt my ears :P )

Mine was at the first Barfly gig in Glasgow April 2006. Will never forget it.

I'd only saw the Keep Believin video on a Classic Rock DVD and heard a few songs on the website, but I knew this band were gonna be a bit special! Me and the wee mucker seriously overestimated the queue and found ourselves being the only 2 folk there about an hour or so before the doors, and were lucky to speak to Cormo for the first time (although he did most of the talking, we were dumbstruck) and say hello to the rest of the boys. Queue us being reduced to puddles of goo when they left!

Most memorable also, because I nearly got taken out with Paul's guitar as he ran it down a monitor, Cormo sang to us, and also gave both of us a big sweaty kiss as he came off stage...oh and the music wasn't bad either! I was stunned.

The Answer were the first band (and still are) that I felt I could call my own, and also they were the first band I'd witnessed who were willing to interact with their fans. When the boys remembered who we were the next month when they were on the Kerrang tour with Sign, that was it for us and they've never been able to get rid of us since!

13th November 2005, Manchester Academy, supporting Alter Bridge.

Sue had been a big fan of Creed. I wasn't......Scott Stapp's voice just went through me. But Sue wanted to see Alter Bridge, so off we went to Manchester. We arrived not even knowing who the support was, let alone having heard them, so the names LOGAN and THE ANSWER meant nothing to us.

Sue really enjoyed Logan's set, and when they left the stage she went off to the merch desk to buy their CD and get it signed. When she got back to me, the Answer were already onstage and a few mins into their set. She found me grooving, grinning from ear to ear, and already well into this bunch of Irishmen, whose singer looked like an early 1970s Robert Plant. :D Sue is a long-standing Led Zep fan, so my only question to her was "Remind you of anybody ?" She nodded, and grinned back at me. We were both instantly hooked.

Alter Bridge played a cracking set, too, with Paul joining them onstage for renditions of "Rock n' Roll" and "Whole Lotta Rosie". Stormin' stuff.

Another trip to the merch desk was definitely on the agenda now. I bought the Keep Believin' EP, got it signed by Mickey and Cormac (with whom I had a brief chat), and played it several times in the car on the drive back to Nottingham. I had to go back and see them again.....if only to catch up with Paul and James and complete the set of signatures !!!......but it was March 2006 before I managed that, at York Fibbers. (We met Debby for the first time that night, too). By the end of 2006 we'd seen them a dozen times, had a few laughs and a few beers with them, and I think our faces had become as familiar to them as theirs were to us. We're now proud to call them friends.

We've seen them live 27 times, from tiny clubs like Fibbers, The Borderline and the Met Lounge, to Wembley Stadium, and Donington Park. We've watched them grow, develop their craft, and take the whole thing in their stride.

I echo Shona's comments about the boys always being accessible to and appreciative of their fans, and no matter how big and successful they become, I'm certain that'll never change.
Be not afeared. This band is full of noises, sound and sweet airs that give delight and hurt not.

Supporting Whitesnake at Sheffield City Hall, I was with Angie and my mate Jo who was 6 months pregnant and I told the girls I wanted to check out the support as I'd read about them in Kerrang. We were blown away by the music and the show they put on....truly amazing, we were hooked. Later I had a quick chat with Cormo about where to get the CD etc. Again, I echo Shona and Nattys comments, I feel like the boys are ours, am so very proud of what they have achieved and every time I see them they just excel themselves. I love it that they recognise us when we go and see them and are always happy to chat. Also through the band and this forum I have met some lovely people!!

Nice thread, Joe.

Nearly 7 and a half years ago in Quinns Jars, of course.

At first, the music was just background noise if I'm being honest. Just something to dance to after a few too many. But hearing "Doctor" ignited my first interest in that band. It just sounded so cool and showed a depth that I have previosuly ignored.

But I really got hooked on them a couple of weeks after that at a house party when I was played the 'End Your Day On A High' ep. I just loved that ep to death. So, that was it really and I have follwed them and championed them ever since.

I've some great memories of all the gigs, some more than other. But they really were our soundtrack for a couple of years. I've made some great friends/people at Answer gigs, had some of the best nights out and met my girlfriend at an Answer gig.

I'm very proud of what they have gone on to achieve what I knew they would and they deserve everything they have worked for and everything thats going to come their way.
They are a truly wonderful rock n roll band and their good guys as well.

If I had to take some memories it would be the gig out in the letrim some years back where we met Debs and Daz and a few others. They played Helter Skelter for me and Joe and it was just a fun gig...lots of good dancing going on there! And the last belfast gig in December, just seeing a great band who knows what their doing, knows how to entertain and look like their really enjoying themselves. Great nights, great tunes and being with some great people...and that's what it's about, isn't it?

Ry...couldn't have put it any better.... 8)

My first Answer moment was 11th June 2005...at the Download Festival...i say moment because I was slighty inebriated (well it was Download  ) and was laid out on the grass listening to some great music in the distance...not knowning...who it was,
.....then my eldest lad came up to us and said he'd just seen...
and i quote "a f@#king great band" unfortunately by the time i got there they had finished...so I heard them before seeing them...which i rectified later that year on a joint headline tour with my friends the 'Tokyo Dragons' (R.I.P) on 7th November at York Fibbers....it was the first time that a band had given my hubby goosebumps for quite a few years...I just thought these guys are awesome...knew there and then i'd seen and heard something really special... and of course one day would have world domination...
...i can honestly say it was life changing...
...(well mine has never quite been the same)... Image

And of course true to form Cormac came out to chat... then invited us to their gig later on that month at Rock City...the rest is history!!!
As already been stated.. weve met some really great people through the band...and been very fortunate to have had some mind blowing experiences...which I would just like to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to the guys and everyone involved...Image
........... long may it continue...................

sadly my first time wasnt untill the ac/dc support slot in dublin last yr, as i hadnt yet found this magical place :D
I stormed to the front almost dragging my girlfriend along the floor and there we stood untill that joyous moment; guitar, bass, drums and good evenin dublin city, WE ARE THE ANSWER!!!! I nearly came my pants :D and for the next half hour i watched, listened, bopped to and sang along to the greatest band in the world for the first time.

since then i have seen the band on 5 further occassions culminating in an amazing headlining dublin gig which is the best gig i have ever been to.

Thanks for some of the greatest times of my life guys, cant wait to see yas again!!

and also as everyone else has said i have found the band to be amazingly aproachable and its a great credit to them fr being that way

So true. Well, I haven't met any of you yet, but I made similar experiences with another board and another band. Nice people, a mad bunch, but mostly harmless.
I do hope to maybe meet some of you in the future. :)

My first Answer gig was November last year Glasgow.
Flew over to Scotland to see them play Glasgow and Edinburgh.
I was going alone, and after the gig was too bored to go straight back to the hotel, so I lingered around the venue (even though it was shitty weather, esp in Glasgow) chatting up people who waited there to meet the guys. On the first night that was a nice lady, die hard AC/DC fan, with her very tolerant (though freezing) partner, next night two cute students. In Edinburgh Micky came over and the bunch of us went to the pub next door, which was nice. First time in ages I was invited for a drink and I have a slight bad conscience for not paying for myself and not having a round on me (I hardly had any pounds left).

I first heard the band on the excellent Planet Rock in 2006, and was blown away instantly, on the strenth of one song (Come Follow Me) i thought these guys were good, and ordered Rise pretty much straight away.
Unfortunately due to various work commitments, holidays etc, i only saw the band live for the first time in July 09, would of been eight weeks sooner had someone not broke their arm!! Nottingham Rescue Rooms was the venue, i had also dragged my girlfriend and a couple of mates with me, after trying to get into Rock City, we eventually found the right spot, Swanee River was just getting into their stride, the place was crammed, and sweaty as hell,
"we'll never get to the front" i told my mates after getting the first round,
"feck that, watch this!" as the shortest of my mates charged to the front, and found a spot on the barrier for all four of us, just to the right of the stage, it was a perfect spot, (i knew i took him for a reason!), as Swanee River drew to a close, i was so pleased with our spot that i refused to go back to the bar for my next round in case i lost our place, so sent the missus!, when the lights were on i couldn't help notice how many people had Answer shirts on, i felt left out! then the lights dimmed and the guy tuning the guitars put his hands in the air, to signal the bands imminent arrival,
"GOOD EVENING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN" after three songs, i had lost my voice, my beer and my missus, the band were on fire, i had dreamt about it being this good, and boy did they live up to it, i found the missus again in the same spot we had from the start, great timing because Cormac had just jumped down from the stage, after a bit of pushing i got to hug and high him, the guy was getting pulled about all over the place, but he looked like he was enjoying himself. When it was encore time i could barely speak, Under The Sky was last, and was the only song one of mates had heard, so he was made up, the band then kicked some beach balls into the croud, one of which i caught, and nothing was gonna make me let go of it, i got to the barrier and held if over the side, so no one would steal it, and i could attempt to deflate it!
It was an awesome gig, the band were electric, not only did i get a beach ball, i got a shirt, and was given a poster as a thanks for coming despite the delay.
As we had to head straight back to yorkshire, we didn't meet the band, i've seen them twice since and still haven't, something i'm looking forward too!
This gig blew my mind, and my friends were very impressed also, both times i've seen the band since the same two mates have come with me, we're always down front and each time i've held Cormac! Once he let me hold the mic while we both sang On and On! Every time has been awesome, i can only hope i go to more gigs.
I'll be whatever i wanna do, people said i was dumb but i showed them.
